In my AERO 121 course, my group and I had to create a glider using insulation foam. This glider had to be sturdy enough to withstand being launched by a large slingshot, while being light and stable enough to remain airborne with a payload of 50 to 400 pennies.
Instead of simply cutting a hole in the side of the fuselage for the wing, my team and I decided to cut the top of the fuselage off at an angle. Doing so allowed us to cut out the hole for the wing easier while still maintaining structural integrity. This also gave us access to the space under the wing to use for our payload.
My team and I were very dedicated to finishing our glider. This led to a few late nights at the workshop to make sure the glider was ready for launch day.
Unfortunately, as of today, the glider has not had its first launch due to poor weather conditions. We are waiting for the launch to be rescheduled.
